This show meant so much to me when I was a kid, but so few people seem to have seen it. As soon as I saw this cel I knew I had to have it, even while doubting it's authenticity. It's such a PERFECT shot of Peter that it seemed "too good to be true." It also had no production number, no background and no sketch. But the price was right, so I took a gamble and bought it anyway.
If it's a fancel, it's the best fancel I've ever seen. I'd argue that it's one of the best cels in my collection. The lines are absolutely crisp and clear, thick, with no signs of fading or damage. It does not look at all done by an amateur. The paint on the back is crisp and clear, and everything looks, to my eye, better that any production cel I own.
The pose is a pretty stock one for Peter. I've included a picture of the back of an old comic book. It's clearly not my cel as the colors are obviously different (even taking in consideration of the hue shift), but mine is closer to his TV product colors.
My guess I suspect mine is one of several original hanken cels in this pose they created for production items, or it was a professionally made color chart or test copy. I'm going to keep looking for artwork that features this exact cel to see if I can compare them, but PP&P stuff is hard to come by.
If you can shed any light on it, please let me know. In either event, whether it's real or not it's an absolutely gorgeous cel and I'm happy to own such a perfect cel of Peter, even if it does turn out to be a fan creation. I never thought about collecting Peter Pan and the Pirates cels, but I'd definitely add more to this section if I ever find them.
