During the pandemic quarantine of 2020 I decided to revisit some old favorite anime. One of them was Azumanga Daioh, which I had always thought was so silly and fun and quirky. Sakaki was always my favorite character, and I remember always wishing that Kaori would get her shit together and really talk to her. I think Sakaki would've loved to have had a friend to gush to about cute things and that could've been Kaori. Instead, Sakaki really bonded more with Chiyo.
Still, I always rooted for Kaori and Sakaki, and I remember how touched I was back in the very early 2000s to see a lesbian crush so casually shown on a TV show. There were no cels made of Azumanga Daioh, as it was all colored digitally, but I knew that douga and genga existed. I did a search on a whim and was very pleased to see this icon scene available on ebay. This is a fantastic sequence Kaori is having, dreaming about Sakaki as her knight, riding in on a stallion. It's a really cute shot. I love how sweetly Sakaki is smiling.
There are a few other scenes I'd love to have douga or genga of from this series, but it's not likely to become a major collecting venture for me.
