Himura Kenshin
Kenshin is the ever popular namesake from the anime Rurouni Kenshin. He's a very overly
cosplayed character, but he's so cool that I couldn't resist from cosplaying him. He's a
wandering man who once was the strongest and more deadly hitokiri battosai (assassin samurai)
back in the Meiji era of Japan. Now he wanders and is a good guy, but still has lots of old enemies
and new enemies to stop de gozaru yo.

Lauren Photoshoot (Sept. 2002):
I'm pretty proud of my Kenshin costume, even though the majority of it was premade for me.
I watched Kenshin while I was in Japan, and really fell in love with the series during my
trip to Japan. I bought a katana for a friend in Kyoto, and with the katana I decided that I'd
cosplay Kenshin, since his orgins were in Kyoto. I looked all over Japan for any other
Kenshin parts I could aquire there, but actually everything beyond the katana was bought in
the US. I ordered the white hakama from a kendo store, and the zori and tabi socks from another
kendo martial arts store. You CANNOT find zori with WHITE hanao anywhere, like Kenshin
has. They're all red or black, or mustard yellow or something sick. So I just ordered a normal
pair and glued a white covering on them, from scraps of my white velvet. It turned out really
well, and so I'm happy. I bought the wig off eBay, too, and its really perfect. I had to
cut the bangs into it myself, but it came out so nicely. =D The kimono part I made myself.
Tracked down a kimono pattern in Butterick patterns, and altered the womans kimono a bit
so that it would fit Kenshin. I made two layers, his lighter under layer which is white, and
made from linen and the heavy coarse fabric that is a suit material for the outer layer.
Putting it all together came out great. As a last effect, I bought purple contacts to wear
with the costume, and I got a lot of comments on them. =D My scar was drawn on with a lovely
brown marker. w00t.
