Samwise Gamgee

This costume was made by me to wear to the premiere of The Two Towers, December 18th, 2002. I had intially intended to have the cloak done as well (since I obtained the official elven brooch) but the brooch arrived late, and I didn't have any desire to stress to get the Lórien cloak done if I didn't have the brooch. I later wore this costume to Char Con 2002, a tribute convention in Las Vegas for my friend Charlene. :D

This costume didn't come out as nicely as I hoped it would, but by the time TTT finally got around to coming out, I found myself a little less enthusiastic about the costume; Lord of the Rings had just gotten too commericalized. On top of that, although I had the costume done to premiere for the 11:59pm showing of TTT on 17th December 2002 at a very large theater in a very popular area (Ontario Mills, CA), I was only one among a handful of costumers, and felt very out of place. I was rather ditched by the party of friends I arrived with (none of whom were in costume), and most people thought I was just some old man who didn't know how to dress himself or comb his own hair. Alas. I promise to get the Lórien cloak done for the premiere of The Return of the King, and to attend the premiere with at least one additional friend also in costume. :) Most of the items were bought at a thrift store and tailored by me, with the exception of the vest, which I hand stiched and coloured the stripes in. I even had footfur, glued on my feet, but most pictures don't show it very well. =/ It looked cool though. My hair is real, and not a wig, which impressed some people. I dyed it blond for the role, and teased the heck out of it to get it poofy like Sam's. The cloak is lacking, because the official brooch I got hadn't arrived yet, so I didn't feel like I should make the cloak without the brooch. Alas. Now I have the brooch and no cloak! LOL Anyway, a fairly simple costume; it could be works better, but it served its purpose. For all intents and purposes, I was reckonized occasionally. Now to just wear it to a mainstream convention. *snickers*
