The Second Doctor

Here is the Second Doctor, played by Patrick Troughton, from the long running British sci-fi Doctor Who. The Second Doctor stories aired between 1966 and 1969, and is the Doctor credited most with keeping the show going, as if Troughton had failed to convince audiences he was the same man, the show would have flopped. Troughton reprised the role in "The Three Doctors," "The Five Doctors" and in "The Two Doctors." He passed away in 1987. Although it varies, I think Troughton is my favorite Doctor.

The Doctor
Cosplaying the Second Doctor was really rewarding for me. Although I had cosplayed both the Fourth and the Tenth Doctors before, both times I did so were during anime conventions, where I was not recognized at all, or barely recognized. Enjoying such minor fame while cosplaying Jamie at "Gallifrey One" I determined to attend more scifi conventions to actually cosplay around people who would know me. At Gallifrey One I met Bob, who was cosplaying the Fourth Doctor. I was already planning a Troughton costume for ComicCon, but he began amassing a group of interested costumers for a large Doctor Who group at the 2007 San Diego ComicCon. Being in a large group increased recognization, and gave me a lot of friends to hang out with. I had a the best time I've had at a con in years.

As to costume construction, most of the items were purchased and modified. I bought the frock coat off eBay, after much searching for one that would fit, wasn't terribly expensive and was properly "worn." This one in question is over 100 years old. I had to add a breast pocket and front hip pockets, and while the fabric doesn't entirely match, it works very well, and looks quite similar to Troughton's, which was also vintage with added pockets. XD The bowtie is vintage from the 1950s, and the trousers are vintage to the 1970s. The trousers are noticably too small for me (and rather painful to wear for extended periods of time), and that was after I added a back flap panel to expand them. Alas, I could not find the right size houndstooth print in my size. I hope to eventually lose a bit of weight so they fit better, but I am still on the lookout for trousers that would fit better. The shirt is just a white dress shirt, and the handkerchief is actually a square of fabric cut from a Russian lapthrow--I couldn't find anything else with a red paisley pattern I liked as much. My sonic screwdriver is actually a vintage tire gague, but I think it works very nicely. I painted the recorder based off color photos from "Power of the Daleks" and I think it's a very close match.

Photo Credit: Photos are by a variety of people, including Bob, Tristan, Carl, Steven, Brian, Catie, Heather, Eurobeat King and some I don't have credit for. If you took a photo featured here and would like credit, please let me know.
Costume Credit: I'm not sure I remember everyone's name, but I shall do my best: 2nd Doctor: Van Donovan, 3rd Doctor: Paul, 4th Doctor: Bob Mitsch, 5th Doctor: Peter?, 6th Doctor: Simon, 7th Doctor: Rick, 9th Doctor: Lena, 10th Doctor (blue): Carl, 10th Doctor (brown): Steven, Captain Jack (coat): Catie, Captain Jack (no coat): Tristan. I know we had some Torchwood people/other new Who people, but I don't know their names, sorry. Also, we had some other 10th Doctor's I don't know either. If you want me to add your name, or can identify people, let me know.
