This amazing Unico cel comes from the pilot episode "Black Cloud, White Feather." In the scene, he has met a sick girl named Chiko, who shows him a book she has with a picture of a unicorn in it. Unico has lost his memories of who and what he is, but when he sees the image of the unicorn, he remembers. That's what he is. Unico! This cel is his moment of realization, when his memories come back.
What a great cel it is of him, too, and what a great, contemplative look of surprise. I love cels that really convey emotion.
I have to admit I had never seen "Black Cloud, White Feather" before. When I saw this cel go up for auction, I knew it was finally time and thanks to the power of the internet I was easily able to find a copy online to watch. I should have seen it sooner, because it was quite wonderful, even if not quite the same as the two feature films that really captured my heart. But I am very happy to get my first cel from this pilot, and I hope I can get more. This is officially my biggest, most central cel of Unico himself, and in a way I'm glad that it's from his first appearance.
Unfortunately, the cel was cut/trimmed so I don't know the sequence number, and it did not come with a douga or background. But for such an old thing (the pilot aired in 1979), I think it's in quite good condition.
