Look at this incredible Future Gohan cel! Look at it! I am so pleased with it.
It actually took me quite a while to place the cel, because it looks so different on the show compared to in person. This is from the first scene in the History of Trunks special that shows adult Gohan. He flies in, lands on a building near Trunks and then there is an epic pan-in on his face. This is one of the last cels from that sequence. What's really cool though, is that someone in the past apparently got a hold of the original background from the sequence where he lands on the building (screencap below) and paired this cel with that original background. It gives the cel a much more exciting, dynamic view since you cannot recreate the "backlight" effect from the show with the cel.
The unfortunate thing, however, is that the cel, which was painted black on the back so it could be backlit, is now, of course, stuck to the background. That's an unfortunately common side effect of backlit cels. There may be some chance of separating the two, but I didn't try. So, while I am very excited to get an original production background, the fact that it's stuck to the cel is really unfortunate, and especially so because it's stuck to a cel from a different sequence, meaning if I ever find a cel of Gohan standing on the roof, I won't even be able to pair it to this background.
Such is the life of a cel collector. There is also unfortunately, no douga, and, like most cels from the History of Trunks, this had some heavy line-fading. Nevertheless, I am extremely happy with this cel and to have a shot from Future Gohan's intro sequence, and the original background from his arrival.
